JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Paul C. "Mike" Snavley, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away May 4, 2017 at the age of 93.

Mike was born in Shelby County, Ohio, on April 18, 1924, to Frank and Lulu (Faler) Snavley. On Nov. 7, 1948 he married Geraldine "Jerri" (Bell) Snavley in her parents' country home with 75 family and friends attending.

Mike is survived by his wife, Jerri; daughter Paula (Timothy) Gaskin, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; and son, Jeffrey Snavley, of Valencia, California. One sister, Doris (Ned) Schurr, of Speedway, Indiana, Wayne "Pete" (Marge) Snavley, of Sidney, Ohio; and sister-in-law, Janet Snavley Schoonover; along with four grandchildren, Shelby (David) Corring, Rebecca Gaskin, Garrett Snavley, Maggie Snavley, and one great-granddaughter, Salka Corring, also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lenora Williams and Ruth Quinn, and six brothers, Irvin (Buddy), Homer (Whitey), Ralph (Sam), Carl (Jake), Dwight (Tubby) and John, brothers-in-law, Virgil Williams and Louis Quinn, sisters-in-law, Evelyn, Arleen, Zelda and Emma.

The Snavley brothers were well known for their athletic abilities, having their own softball team with their father making the ninth player and their own basketball team. The basketball team traveled to North Carolina to participate in the National Family Tournament reaching runners-up a few times.

Mike graduated from Perry High School (Fairlawn) in 1943 and served in World War II with the Navy for three years. Upon return to Shelby County, he worked at Dayton, Power and Light Company until retirement in 1986.

He was very active in the Sidney community and is a Life Member of the American Legion Post 217, Elks Lodge 786, Veterans of Foreign War Post 4239, Moose Lodge 568 serving as governor of the lodge in 1972. He raised the membership from 489 to 1,702 over a period of eight years when serving as the secretary of the lodge.

He also served as the state president of the Moose Association in 1982 and received the highest honor of Pilgrim Degree in 1980. He also served as governor of the Indian Lake Moose Lodge 1533 in Russells Point, Ohio, with holding a duel membership.

Mike was a life member of the West Central Ohio Officials Association serving as a registered basketball official for 27 years and 25 years as a registered baseball umpire. He was a member of the Ohio Council of Fraternal and Service Organizations Inc. serving as a one year District Director.

Mike was active in the Boy Scout program supporting his son earning his badges and supporting him when he was playing little league. Mike loved boating and camping at Indian Lake where he taught both children how to water ski. He also enjoyed golf, serving as golf superintendent for six years and was very proud to have a hole-in-one on each of the three golf courses that he was a member of.

Mike was a member of the Sidney Methodist Church where he served as an usher. Retiring to Wildwood, Florida, in 1986, he joined the Wildwood Methodist Church and served as usher, communion steward, greeter and Wednesday night dinner kitchen team. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Leesburg Regional Medical Center in the transporting service. After moving to Jacksonville Beach in 1998, he joined the Baptist Medical Center Beaches Auxiliary in 1999 and worked in the Emergency Department for 15 years. He joined the Beaches Methodist Church and still holds membership in the church.

Mike and his wife Jerri moved to Brookdale Southside January 2016 because of health reasons. Mike courageously faced end stage renal disease with several years of dialysis treatments.
