The Ohio Special Project at Moosehaven

Background

Ohio and Moosehaven have long had a special relationship. During the construction of the $16 million Life Care Center, the Ohio Moose Association displayed its leadership as a major donor for the overall campaign. In addition, after its initial Life Care goal was met, Ohio accepted additional Life Care funding responsibilities in its capacity as a lead challenger in the Life Care Million Dollar Matching Challenge. In each instance, Ohio demonstrated its leadership capabilities and the strength of its interest in the welfare of our seniors at Moosehaven.

Today, the dream of a Life Care Center is now a reality. The Moosehaven seniors in need of additional levels of care are able to receive the special attention they need – with the respect and dignity they deserve.

Project Information

During the construction of the Life Care Center, a portion of the original one-story Paul P. Schmitz Health Center was removed to make room for the new facility. The remainder, still joined to the new Life Care Center and known as "C-Wing", was saved for future use. Today, the specific need for C-Wing has become clear. The growing need for appropriate senior living space is evident throughout our society and is reflected in the Moose Fraternity. To meet these needs, Moosehaven is planning to expand its residential capacity by completing the renovation of C-Wing.

Because it is still joined to the Life Care Center, the C-Wing renovation can be done in such a way as to meet various current and future population needs at Moosehaven. When the need is for assisted living facilities, the new C-Wing will be able to take advantage of existing Life Care Center facilities. When the need shifts toward independent living facilities, the renovated C-Wing will be able to meet these needs as well.-Of course, when it is completed, the newly-renovated facility will sport a more appropriate name than "C-Wing."

In addition to the need for this renovated facility, Moosehaven has a great need to receive funding to support its day to day operations. This funding represents fifty-percent of the Ohio Special Project and is essential to meeting the most basic needs of our Moosehaven seniors. It provides for food, clothing, medical care, utilities, and program activities that keep our seniors active and healthy during their golden years. This support of Moosehaven is needed while the strength of endowed funding is being restored –and as funding is being sought for renovation of the C-Wing.
